On February 8-9, 2025, the Alta Climbing Team showcased their talent and determination at the USA Climbing (USAC) Youth Bouldering Divisional D3 Championship held at Flowstone Climbing in Redlands, California. This event brought together some of the most promising young climbers from across the division, all vying for a coveted spot at the National Championships.

Understanding the Competitive Pathway in Youth Bouldering
For those new to the world of competitive youth bouldering, here’s a brief overview of the journey from local competitions to the national stage:
Qualifying Events (QEs): The season kicks off with local qualifying events, typically running from October through December. These competitions allow climbers to gain experience and earn rankings within their region.
Regional Championships: Top performers from the QEs advance to the Regional Championships, usually held in January. This competition brings together the best climbers from specific geographic areas to compete for advancement to the next level.
Divisional Championships: Successful athletes from Regionals move on to the Divisional Championships in February. Here, climbers from multiple regions within a division compete for spots at the National Championships.
National Championships: The pinnacle of youth competitive climbing, Nationals bring together the top climbers from each division to compete for national titles. In 2025, the Youth National Championships will be held at Portland Rock Gym Beaverton in Portland, Oregon.
This structured pathway ensures that climbers develop their skills progressively, facing increasing levels of competition as they advance.
